The Points Based System

The implementation of the Points Based System (PBS) is underway.

This system is based upon the Australian immigration system and its creation is the biggest change to UK immigration in the last 40 years.

The Points Based System is separated into 5 different tiers under which migrants can apply to enter and work the UK. These tiers are replacing more than 80 of the existing immigration rules.

In addition the Points Based System requires employers of most migrant workers to obtain a licence from the Border and Immigration Agency and sponsor their workers while they are living and working in the UK. More details here
